Hello, How do you?

3‑5 mins

Bring the Keri puppet to the lesson. Say Hello, Keri! Let Keri whisper to you. Do the matching actions by pointing to parts of your face or Keri’s face as you lead the class using the following phrases. Say to the class, Let’s see! Keri says, “How do you make a face?” A face has….two eyes, a nose, two ears, a mouth – and a smile! Let’s all smile! Elicit the parts of the face first if you can, of course.
Ask the class to move to the screen, saying Let’s watch and let’s listen!
Praise everyone.

Film

5‑10 mins

Ask the class to sit where they can see the screen easily.
Show the clip and invite the children to repeat the new words and phrases. Show the monkey flashcard and reinforce the new word, monkey, by repeating it together.
Show the clip again and encourage them to point to their ears, nose, eyes, mouth and face with the presenter. Finish with a really big smile!
Invite a volunteer to come and point to the facial features on the Keri puppet and encourage the whole class to repeat the words again.
Wave goodbye to the presenter and say Goodbye! See you soon!

Pupil’s Book

20‑30 mins

Use a transition action to move to the tables. Perhaps invite the class to mime being a monkey again as they walk to the tables!
Give each child the Pupil’s Book page and pencils.
Ask the pupils to complete the monkey’s face. Say Trace over the lines.
Check that the pupils have completed the sheet correctly. Hold up a sheet and point to each of the facial features and revise eyes, nose, mouth, ears.

Rhyme I am happy

10 mins

Invite the class to stand in a circle.
Play the rhyme on repeat and ask the class to each mime doing something that makes them happy.
Ask selected pupils to mime their action for the whole class and allow them to guess in the home language what makes the pupil happy.
Extend the activity by miming activities and asking the pupils to put that action into the I am happy when… phrase, such as I am happy when I ride, I am happy when I play, I am happy when I draw, I am happy when I paint, I am happy when I run…

Monkey says…!

10‑15 mins

Revise action words with the monkey flashcard by adapting the Simon says game for the monkey. Remind the class that they only do the action if you start with the phrase Monkey says…
You can play this as an elimination game or ask those who react at the wrong time to sit down and wait for one turn.
Include the verbs jump, clap, nod, ride, smile, wave, fly, sit, stand, dance, point.

Who’s that?

10‑15 mins

Invite the class to sit in a circle.
Hand the four puppets to four pupils to hold. Let a fifth pupil hold the monkey card hidden behind his or her back.
Hand the face part flashcards to other volunteers to hold up when called: eyes, nose, mouth, ears. The rest of the class are all monkeys who will jump up and dance like monkeys at the end.
Say the script and ask the characters to repeat the script first, then the whole class of hiding monkeys. If you have not presented the verb and word ‘to wave’ before, do so here.
Dog: Woof! Woof! Woof!
Tom: Hello, Dog, what can you see?
Dog: Woof! Woof! Woof!
Keri:Hello, Tom! Dog can see eyes!
(The eyes card is held up)
Tom: Hello, Keri, what can you see?
Keri: I can see ears!
(The ears card is held up)
Cat: Miaow! Miaow!
Keri: Hello, Cat! What can you see?
Cat: Miaow! Miaow!
Tom: Cat can see a nose!
(The nose card is held up)
Keri: Tom, what can you see?
Tom: I can see a mouth!
(The mouth card is held up)
Monkey:Oooh! Ooooh! Eeeeeh! Eeeeh! Ah! Ah!
Keri: What can you hear?
All: Monkey!
(The pupil holding the Monkey card jumps into the middle of the circle and all the non‑acting pupils jump up and dance on the spot like a monkey!)

Who’s that?

5‑10 mins

Invite the class to sit where they can see you.
Hold up the character and animal flashcards, including the monkey, covered by a blank card, as in week 10.
Add extra participation from the class with a chant. Gradually reveal a part of a character card and invite the class the chant Who’s that? Who’s that? Then invite the class to guess the name as soon as possible.

Extra Activities

Online Resource sheet Masks

Invite the pupils to sit at the tables, using a transition action or song.
Hand out colouring pencils and the online resource sheet animal masks. You may wish to offer a selection of the animals so that you have a whole farm‑full!
Revise the names of the animals.
Point to the key features on each face with the class as they make the masks and elicit the names of the features to check that each pupil has remembered the words: eyes, nose, mouth, face, ears.
